ABOUT US.

Ashley l. Conklin, PH.D.

As a specialist in the field of ADHD Coaching for twenty-five years, the mother of two young adults diagnosed with ADHD, and a former Southern Methodist University student, staff, and faculty member, I am uniquely qualified to help college students with ADHD reach their academic potential. I understand ADHD, not merely as a result of my education and experience in the field, but because I have lived with it daily through my own children.  I am passionate about helping college students—mine AND yours—reach their potential and succeed personally and academically. Since 2001, my distinctive approach, The Concierge ADHD Coaching model, has been the key to unlocking academic success and transforming hundreds of my clients from struggling students to confident college graduates.

MICHELLE LINDSAY, M.ED.

For nearly twenty years, Michelle has worked in secondary education as a teacher, advocate, coach, and administrator. In these roles, she has developed an exceptional ability to connect with and guide underachieving students toward success. Michelle's passion for her work coupled with her positive energy and contagious enthusiasm make her a favorite with her students. In addition to her professional experience, Michelle has also successfully raised and launched 6 kids--including a set of twins with ADHD and a very high-functioning, twice-exceptional daughter with ADHD. As a result, she understands the nuanced struggles many students with ADHD endure and is passionate about partnering with her clients to help them develop skills, experience wins, gain confidence, and reach their potential.

AJ HERRERA, ACC

AJ graduated Summa Cum Laude from Colorado State University and is an alumnus of JST Coaching and Training where she completed a specialized curriculum in coaching ADHD and neurodiverse students. AJ will receive her Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential from the International Coaching Federation (ICF) at the end of 2024. As a twice-exceptional individual (gifted and executive function deficits), AJ has experienced many of the same challenges our students encounter and has a profound compassion for their plight. She views each of her clients as capable and resourceful individuals who are the heroes of their own stories and strives to help them capitalize on their strengths as she guides them toward success. AJ’s enthusiasm, energy, and optimism not only make her a joy to be around but also enable her to connect with and inspire her students to achieve their goals. AJ and her husband have 3 beautiful daughters, some of whom have their own place on the neurodiversity spectrum.

Concierge Coaching

THE Concierge Coaching MODEL.

The Concierge ADHD Coaching model is a solution-focused, collaborative approach

that is the key to unlocking competence, confidence, and academic success for college students with ADHD

via individualized sessions occurring within the context of a positive, nurturing, and nonjudgmental atmosphere.

CONCIERGE

Similar to a hotel concierge or physician practicing concierge medicine, I am passionate about and dedicated to addressing my clients’ needs regardless of their magnitude or level of difficulty. I strive to be a valuable resource for my clients (and their parents) and am available to provide assistance both during our regularly scheduled sessions or "after hours" as needed.

Because I limit the number of clients with whom I work each semester, I am able to focus on each student's individual needs and dedicate the time and attention necessary to ensure that these needs are met. While the coaching plan differs for each student, regular, virtual visits (2-4 times a week) are the staple of our work and are routinely supplemented by phone, text, and email conversations as needed.

The fact that I continue to work with the vast majority of my clients until they graduate, that many clients routinely stay in touch with me after graduation, and that the bulk of my clients are referred by current or former clients is a testament to the success I have had with the Concierge ADHD Coaching model.

COACHING

My mission is for every client to succeed academically and to develop a sense of academic and personal self-competence--something that is usually lacking in students with ADHD as a result of previous educational experiences that have, in many cases, left them feeling ashamed, defeated, and frustrated.

I accomplish my mission by establishing an empathetic, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment in which students feel accepted, valued, and capable. Within the context of that relationship, I partner with students in the educational process by providing specialized coaching, a practical and evidence-based intervention that specifically targets the core executive functioning deficits associated with ADHD such as planning, organization, prioritization, goal-setting, time and task management, emotional regulation, and problem-solving.

While my clients are responsible for their own work and grades, I help them organize, prioritize, plan, and follow through with their work, directing and monitoring their progress continuously to meet their goals. Frequent meetings and regular contact increase student accountability and, ultimately, success.

WHY COACHING?

This is crucial because...

College Students with ADHD:

  • are less likely to graduate, take longer to graduate, and have lower GPAs.

  • have more difficulty transitioning from high school to college.

  • are more likely to become homesick, depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed.

  • are more likely to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol.

  • habitually underestimate the time required to complete assignments and study for exams.

  • rarely change their behavior in response to past mistakes.

  • struggle to know what to study, to start on work, to complete work, and to submit work on time.

  • ignore academic difficulties and do not seek help until it is too late.

However, research also shows that...

College students with ADHD who work with a coach:

  • engage in more positive thoughts and behaviors.

  • take greater responsibility for their actions.

  • show improvements in goal attainment.

  • are better able to modulate emotions and manage stress.

  • show improvements in study skills and learning strategies.

  • have increased self-awareness and self-esteem.

  • are more satisfied with school.

  • perform better academically.

Research shows coaching leads to consistent, positive results in college students with ADHD.
